Class of Employers

Industry

A.  Manufacturing Section

1.  Employees with fifty or more employees

2.  Employers with ten but not more than fifty employees and with a paid-up capital of two million and five hundred thousand ringgit (RM2,500,000) and above

B.  Service Sector

Employers with ten or more employees.

Manufacturing, that is, the making, altering, blending, ornamenting, finishing or otherwise treating or adapting any article or substance with a view to its use, sale, transport, delivery or disposal, including the assembly of parts and ship repairing; but excluding retail or wholesale trading

(i)  Hotel, that is, the provision on a fee basis, of lodging including hostels, inns, boarding-houses, rest-houses, chalets and resorts, whether open to the general public or restricted to members of a particular organization.

(ii) Air transport, that is, transport by air, on a fee or contract basis, of passengers and freight whether by regular services or by private charter, including overhaul, repair and maintenance of and cleaning services for aircrafts

(iii) Tour operating business and travel agency business as defined in section 2 of the Tourism Industry Act 1992

(iv) Telecommunication as defined in section 2 of the Telecommunication Act 1950

 (v) Freight forwarders, that is, local and long distance trucking, transfer and trailer services, including the operation of terminals for handling of freight, delivery, baggage transfer, furniture moving, animal transport services and rental of trucks with drivers; but excluding delivery departments and transportation by business units for their own use

  (vi) Shipping, that is, the operation of vessels for transport of freight and passengers overseas and coastwise, including towing services on the high seas, operation of vessels for transport by rivers, canals and other inland waterways including ferries operated across rivers, domestic lakes and within harbours, water taxies, sightseeing boats, towing and tugboat services on inland waterways.

  (vii) Postal or courier, that is, delivering any postal article which includes any letter, postcard, newspaper, book, document, pamphlet, pattern or sample packet, small packet, parcel, package or other article or thing transmissible by post or courier services

(viii) Advertising, that is, contracting services by advertising agencies to provide advertising services for clients in various types of media and doing market research work

(ix) Computer services, that is software development, maintenance of software and database, systems integration and networking, contract staffing, facilities management, provision of external computer installation and maintenance service which involves supply of spare parts, components and upgrade versions and provision of advisory service.
